The Singapore Karate-Do Federation National Inter-School Open Invitation 2005 took place on June 19, 2005 in the Hall at Ghim Moh Primary School.
6 karate associations participated in this year’s competition, which lasted from 9.00am in the morning to about 5.00pm in the evening. A total of about 100 students, ranging from those in Primary 3 to Upper Secondary came together to meet in friendly competition.
KGS fielded 13
participants of various ages, a number in the kata competition and
more in kumite, each with differing levels of experience and skills.
The tournament saw keen competition facing KGS, led by Team Manager
Dylan Ng. But our karatekas held their own against their opponents. A
number of first-time competitors surprised the KGS team by beating
their more experienced opponents to clinch medals. |

Throughout the tournament, parents and fellow team members cheered our participants on. Our Head Coach Eugene Koh and Coach Kelvin Koh did a fine job as referees of the various matches. Head Coach Koh had this to say at the end of the day, “KGS has many potential players. What pleasantly surprised were the kids from the Primary section, who although were new to competition, were very focused and eager to win. We can now groom and develop both the younger talents and our existing seniors to prepare them for future tournaments and bigger events.”
Our 7 karatekas who did KGS proud and won medals include:
· Lim Gene Clyde - Bronze, Primary 4 Boys Individual Kumite · Lim Shaun Jan - Silver, Primary 5 Boys Individual Kumite · Amanda Yap - Silver, Primany 5 Girls Individual Kumite · Lee Jun Wei - Bronze, Secondary 3 Boys Individual Kumite · Rainer Tan - Bronze, Individual Kata · Lee Kiah Leng - Bronze Secondary 4 Girls Individual Kumite · Ang Kai Fong - Bronze Secondary 4 Girls Individual Kumite
Congratulations to our medal winners and
see you at next year’s National Inter-School Open Invitation! |
